Some shoes are just built to transcend generations, and Nike's Air Max 95 is simply thatlevel of iconic. Since the '90's the AM95 has ignored the status quo and outpaced Father Time as a go-to sneaker for almost 30 years. Sergio Lozano's original design owns a major chunk of popular real estate within Nike Sportwear's extensive catalog of vintage runners, but few other Air Maxes are more polarizing or beloved.
At first, the AM95 was uncharacteristically Swoosh-less, and seen as too brash for Nike. Lozano told Sneaker Freaker, “from the design to the color to the little Swoosh, it all caused controversy. I had initially designed the shoe without a Swoosh because we believed the design was aesthetically strong… so we positioned it as a signature, a sign off on the shoe." But Sergio persevered...

Inspired by the human skin, the Air Max 95's design motifs actually align with some common characteristics of Spring. For example, both the AM95 and Spring symbolize vitality and evolution.

  • Vitality - The shoe's playful design connects with children, teens and adults of all orientation. Spring brings new life every year as winter fades.
  • Evolution - Plant-life evolves from seeds, and the Air Max 95 was the next evolution of Nike Air technology. Plants continue to grow... Nike Air continues to grow.

We drew the connection between Spring and the Air Max 95 because our latest collection is inspired by the two! Spring brings new opportunity, so we here at The Shrine.co decided to try something new. We're beyond excited to debut our boldest and most vibrant look yet - the Neon Green Weekender Backpack!

-

-

With borrowed DNA from the Nike Air Max 95 'Neon', our new Weekender Backpack taps into a bright aesthetic that's perfect for Spring. It's everything you love about The Shrine.co, but bolder, brighter and more aggressive! The 'Neon' AM95s changed the game forever; and since 1995, the color's popularity has grown. It's sooo big that Nike routinely pays homage to the style with inspired Air Max 95 releases. Lets take a look back at some of the best Neon-themed Air Max 95s to go alongside your new Neon Weekender Backpack!

Air Max 95 'Neon' OG - 2020

-

The one that started it all... the OG 'Neon'. For consistency purposes we're going with the 2020 retro. Groundbreaking best describes this pair: first Nike shoe with Air in the forefoot, first Air Max with a black midsole, first Air Max to debut in Neon Green. Few runners or casual sneaker fans (old school sneaker heads) could've imagined the cult-like following the AM95 'Neon' would achieve throughout the decades, but there's just something so powerful about those shades of grey alongside that Neon Green.

Air Max 95 Ultra Jacquard 'Neon' - 2015

-

-

Mixing up a routine is the best way to get new results, so Nike remixed various elements of the OG Air Max 95 'Neon' to create a new beast. Jacquard print replaces the gradient grey strip overlays of the OG, and Flywire cables was added to the side panels for a more technical look. While this look might not be for everyone, it certainly looks better than 2012's Engineer'ed Mesh AM95s. We actually think the Jacquard/Neon look would look super tough with our Neon Weekender Backpack.

Air Max 95 x NikeCourt Air Zoom Vapor 10 'RF' - 2018

-

-

Tennis superstar Roger Federer cooked up some beautiful sneakers with Nike before his departure from the brand - one of them being these Air Zoom Vapor 10 tennis shoes. With obvious inspiration drawn from the AM95 'Neon', Federer's limited edition pair looks nearly identical to the OGs, but with specialized tooling. See, Air Max 95s sit too high off the ground to be suitable for elite level tennis, so Nike utilized its proprietary tennis cushioning system found in the Zoom Vapor 10. This marriage of heritage and technology allows for fantastic results. If you have a pair, then throw them in your matching Shrine.co bag on your way to tennis practice.

Air Max 95 PRM 'Volt Glow' - 2018

-

-

If you don't feel this colorway then you're just a hater, because this color blocking job is A1. The Air Max 95 PRM (premium) 'Volt Glow' pays homage to the OGs without rehashing old history. Nike successfully created a new Air Max 95 with all the modern twists we expect, while keeping the line's heritage intact. Everything about this reimagining of the 'Neon' AM95s is high quality and perfectly executed.

Do you own any of these Air Max 95s? Are you stoked for our new Neon Weekender Backpack? Stay tuned to The Shrine.co for more sneaker content and news about our hottest releases!
